BuiltByAL aims to use only technologies that are genuinely necessary for the website to function securely and effectively.

We do not use advertising or behavioural tracking technologies as part of the current website.

3. BuiltByAL’s approach

BuiltByAL follows these principles:

  • avoid unnecessary tracking;
  • do not use behavioural advertising;
  • do not use technologies to build advertising profiles of visitors;
  • explain technologies that are used;
  • obtain consent where legally required;
  • provide appropriate controls where an exemption requires them;
  • review the website whenever new third-party technology is introduced.

A cookie banner will only be used where the technologies actually present on the website require one.

4. Technologies used on the website

hCaptcha

The Website Preview form uses hCaptcha to help protect the website against:

  • automated submissions;
  • spam;
  • abuse;
  • malicious activity.

hCaptcha may use cookies or similar storage and access technologies and may process technical information to assess whether an interaction is being made by a genuine user.

This may include information associated with:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device;
  • session information;
  • user interactions needed for anti-bot assessment;
  • security and service-related statistics.

The BuiltByAL website itself does not set cookies. Any storage or access technologies used in connection with the Website Preview form are those provided by hCaptcha, and are used solely to protect the form against automated abuse.

Where a technology qualifies for an applicable legal exemption, it may operate without prior consent.

Where consent is legally required, the relevant technology will not be activated until the visitor has made the required choice.

5. Essential and security technologies

Some storage or access technologies may be necessary to:

  • provide a service requested by the visitor;
  • protect the website and its forms;
  • prevent or detect fraud or abuse;
  • detect technical faults;
  • maintain secure website operation.

Where an applicable legal exemption applies, these technologies may operate without prior consent.

BuiltByAL will not classify a technology as essential merely because it is convenient for the business.

6. Website analytics

No website analytics technology is enabled.

BuiltByAL may introduce privacy-focused website analytics in the future to understand matters such as:

  • website performance;
  • whether visitors encounter usability problems.

If analytics are introduced:

  1. the technology will be assessed before activation;
  2. this Cookie Policy will be updated;
  3. personal profiling will be avoided where reasonably possible;
  4. the most privacy-preserving configuration that meets the business need will be preferred;
  5. any legally required consent or objection mechanism will be implemented.

Analytics will not be introduced merely for collecting data without a defined business purpose.

7. Advertising and behavioural tracking

BuiltByAL does not currently use:

  • behavioural advertising cookies;
  • cross-site tracking;
  • retargeting pixels;
  • advertising profiles;
  • third-party advertising networks.

Such technologies will not be added without a separate privacy and legal assessment.

8. Third-party services

Some features of the website may depend on third-party providers.

The Website Preview form involves:

  • Web3Forms for form processing and delivery;
  • hCaptcha for spam and abuse protection.

A third-party service may operate its own infrastructure and technologies when its service is used.

BuiltByAL keeps the relevant provider arrangements under review, including when material changes are made.

Links to external websites do not mean that BuiltByAL controls the cookies or technologies used on those external websites.

Where BuiltByAL uses a technology that legally requires consent, it will not be activated before valid consent has been obtained.

Visitors will not be treated as having consented merely because they continued browsing the website.

Where an applicable exemption allows a technology to operate without consent but requires visitors to have a simple way to object, BuiltByAL will provide an appropriate objection mechanism.

Rejecting optional technologies should not prevent a visitor from accessing the basic BuiltByAL website.

Essential security functionality may still operate where legally permitted and necessary.

10. Managing cookies through your browser

Most browsers allow you to:

  • delete cookies;
  • block some or all cookies;
  • restrict third-party cookies;
  • change site-specific permissions.

Blocking essential or security-related technologies may prevent certain website features from working correctly, including the Website Preview form.

11. Changes to the technologies we use

The cookie and storage technology position must be reviewed when BuiltByAL:

  • introduces analytics;
  • changes its form provider;
  • changes spam-protection technology;
  • introduces embedded third-party content;
  • introduces advertising or marketing technology;
  • changes hosting or security systems in a way that affects visitor devices;
  • adds another service capable of storing or accessing information on a visitor’s device.

The Cookie Policy will be updated where a material change affects visitors.

The production website has been reviewed and the current position is:

  • The BuiltByAL website itself does not set cookies.
  • The only third-party technology that may store or access information on a visitor’s device is hCaptcha, and it loads only on the page containing the Website Preview form. It is used solely to protect that form against automated submissions, spam and abuse.
  • Web3Forms processes a submission only when the form is submitted; hCaptcha is completed as part of that submission.
  • The website is served through Cloudflare, which may set strictly necessary security cookies where applicable to protect and deliver the site.
  • No website analytics are enabled, and no advertising, behavioural tracking or retargeting technologies are used.

On this basis, the storage and access technologies associated with the website are strictly necessary and security-related (protecting the enquiry form and the website), rather than optional analytics or advertising technologies. Under current guidance these may operate without a prior-consent banner, so no cookie consent banner is used. This position is kept under review and will be reassessed if the configuration changes as described in section 11.
